Building better businesses… with Technology

If you’ve ever needed to reassign a profile on a computer to another account, such as during an emergency server migration, this could be a life saver.
This couldn’t have come at a better time. Thanks Craig for all your efforts on this – we’ll be trying this out.

After all these years, and all these fancy GUIs, I still spend much of my time at the command prompt.
While COMMAND.COM and CMD.EXE are the standards in Windows, I’ve used 4DOS and 4NT (http://www.jpsoft.com) continuously since 1989 (has it really been almost 20 years???). 4NT always the first thing that goes on any new computer I get.
Now Microsoft has finally built a real, professional shell called PowerShell! I couldn’t be happier with that. They also are clearly committed to it.
So now I’ve got three shells I work with on a daily basis: 4NT, CMD, and PowerShell. Makes for a cluttered desktop and there is only so much desk space for additional monitors (or budget).
Enter TCI from the 4NT/4DOS creators. Its a full tabbed environment for my shells. Since all my browsers and editors are fully tabbed, its only fair that my shell gets that capability too.
I setup TCI with toolbar buttons for each of my shells. With one simple click, I can start any shell I need, multiple times. I can also “detach” the tabs and move it to a different monitor if need be.
The previous versions of TCI were a little cumbersome, but the latest version is just pure gold.
If you live at a Windows Shell like I do, this is worth checking out.

Every now and again I have to call upon my minimalist skills to build regular expressions. I dread it, but I always get myself through it.
I just found Ultrapico’s Expresso program – now I can’t wait till my next foray into regular expressions.
It lets you build regular expressions using a GUI with a palette of very description options, and test them from right in the program. This should help cut down my grunt time substantially.
Version 2.0 is free, while version 3.0 (currently in Beta) may cost something in the future. The beta expires after 180 days.
Check it out – its at http://www.ultrapico.com/Expresso.htm.

The new RDP Client 6.0 caused me all sorts of grief. That extra login prompt up front broke some of my utilities which I use daily, but our own standard Group Policy settings do not allow credentials to be passed anyway.
Until Longhorn is truly a reality, and to fix any utilities which you have which can’t work with the new Remote Desktop Client 6.0, you can do the following to get it to work like it did before.

You can help the war on Spam - specifically Image Spam. That’s the spam that shows up in your inbox as graphics instead of text.
The spammers got wise that all us mail admins were analyzing the text of the messages to help flag the spam. So they ‘hid’ their pitch inside a picture so we would have a harder time analyzing it.
Grab a drink, warm up your mouse clicking finger, and make your way over to http://spamornot.org/. Help the cause – rate a hundred images on your next break.
