Office Communicator 2007 v2.0.6362.64 hotfix

Latest build of Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 is available from here.

This update fixes the following issues:

951870 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951870/) Event IDs 8239 and 8206 are logged when you schedule and then cancel a meeting in Communicator 2007

949498 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949498/) Error message when a Communicator 2007 user sends a message that contains only Japanese characters to Communicator 2005 users: “<Username> cannot receive message in the format you used”

951871 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951871/) The presence status changes to Away for all Terminal Server users when an administrator locks the desktop or lets the screen saver run in Communicator 2007

951868 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951868/) Registry settings for certain protocols are overwritten, and Communicator 2007 becomes the default application for these protocols when you log on to Communicator 2007

Note This update now enforces HTTPS in High Security mode. Some services that previously worked by using HTTP will now be required to use HTTPS when they are in High Security mode. These services include the address book service, the custom tabs service, and the custom presence service.

Office Communicator w/LiveCam or LiveChat

I’ve got Microsoft’s LiveCam for my laptop and its a great camera.  The button on top when pressed starts Live Messenger and not Office Communicator.

This “fixes” that and launches Communicator instead.

Now if only they (or someone) could make an IE/Firefox plug-in for using Communicator to automatically call phone numbers listed on webpages, like the Skype client does, we’d have a great mobile communicator.

Office Communicator Phone update wackiness

When updating our Office Communication Phone edition phones to the latest release, I was running into the “Thread was being aborted” error message.

Jens’ article helped me solve it in no time.  My problem was actually memory.  I added another 256mb and it worked.

I did the web.config and IIS modifications anyway for good measure.

Within 15 minutes, my phone at home updated itself and I was a happy camper ;)

Thanks Jens!

Jens Trier Rasmussen : Uploading of a .cab file to Update Server WSS site fails with an exception and the message Thread was being aborted

  • Treo 700wx Update for Sprint

A very long waited update if you own a Palm Treo 700wx phone.  Fixes a lot of long standing issues.

    Release notes:

  • High-speed dial up networking (DUN) – use your Treo smartphone as a wireless modem for fast web access virtually anywhere1. Supports USB and Bluetooth connections.
  • Advanced audio support (A2DP) – enjoy your music in full stereo with new support for Bluetooth stereo headsets.
  • Hands-free enhancements – Drive safely and work more efficiently. Get support for even more Bluetooth carkits and the Palm wired carkit.
  • Additional SSL root certificates.
  • The Treo 700wx Updater 1.15 for Sprint smartphones also addresses these issues:

    1. Soft keyboard cannot be dismissed. This issue occurred when creating a new speed dial.
    2. Device freezing / locking up. This occurred with some devices when returning from roaming coverage
    3. Waking up, device does not respond. Improves device wake up performance
    4. Saskatchewan Time Zone. Resolves an issue when “Enable network time” and “use network time zone” are selected on the device. The device would incorrectly list Saskatchewan as the time zone.
    5. Voice Mail Indicator interferes w/ audio. This occurred during an active call, when a new call comes in, which is ignored, the voicemail indicator is received and audio cannot be heard from either caller. However, the original call still shows as “active” when the audio drops out.
    6. Bluetooth routing. Device improperly routes audio to a Bluetooth headset when answering calls using the buttons on the phone.

  • Communicator Mobile 2007 released!

Microsoft’s Communicator 2007 is a fine piece of software.  It’s small, its fast, its amazingly stable, and it simply connects all other forms of technical (business) communications other than email.

Its clear this is a very important piece of software to Microsoft’s future.

Having started with Windows Messenger and Exchange 2000 and worked through today’s Communicator, I am very impressed.  Our business just hasn’t been the same since we started with Messenger - its vital.

I am exploring all of the telephony options with Communicator now (more on this soon) as well as other offshoots which I am still under NDA about.  I can say that Exchange 2007’s Unified Messaging with Communicator and Office Communications Server 2007, all of which we are running, is great stuff.

So without further ado, your Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 can now run its own version of Communicator.  Yes its IM only at this point, but that’s just a start I’m sure.  Skype and Cisco has some formidable competition here.

Speaking of Cisco, I look forward to testing their Unified Personal Communicator (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6844/index.html) sometime soon to compare.

Grab Communicator Mobile 2007 from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2eea3e24-f216-4887-92b0-f37d942e26e0&displaylang=en and let us know what you think.

For the OCS admins, you’ll need to follow these instructions (http://blogs.technet.com/networking/archive/2007/09/06/communicator-mobile-beta-2-cannot-sign-on-to-ocs-2007.aspx) to allow Communicator Mobile access for your users.
